I’ve often recommended scheduling newborn sessions when the baby is between 7 to 10 days old. This window typically allows us to capture those peaceful, sleepy moments and those adorable, curled-up poses. However, life is unpredictable, and sometimes the perfect timing isn’t possible. Recently, I had the pleasure of conducting a newborn session with a one-month-old baby, which turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience. Here’s how we made it work and why it was special.
At one month old, babies are more alert and curious about their surroundings. While this might mean fewer sleepy poses, it opens the door to a different kind of magic. This little one loved being held by mom and dad, finding comfort in their arms. Including parents in the photos helped soothe the baby and added a beautiful, emotional depth to the images.
For this session, we chose a lifestyle theme in the studio. This approach blends the authenticity of natural, candid moments with the controlled environment of a studio, allowing us to use our wardrobe, lighting, and sets to their fullest potential.
Benefits of Studio Lifestyle Photography
1. Our studio provides a comfortable space for both the baby and the parents. We have control over the lighting and temperature, ensuring the best conditions for the session.
2. The parents had access to our curated wardrobe, which includes outfits that photograph beautifully and complement our studio’s aesthetic.
3. Our studio sets are designed to mimic natural environments, offering a range of homely and polished backdrops.
The Session: A Blend of Calm and Connection During the session, we focused on capturing the baby in the parent’s arms, how they gazed lovingly at their new addition, and the tiny details that make these moments so precious. The baby’s expressions, how they interacted with their surroundings, and the tender interactions with mom and dad all told a unique story.
