Alex and Eric were married in January at the rustic wedding venue, Birchwood Vineyard in Derry NH. One of the many things I love about Birchwood is that it’s beautiful inside and outside and since this day was in the single digits we did the majority of photography indoors with the exception of a couple of quick night photos.  I tend to lean into the general tonality of a wedding so, with all the dark wood, industrial light fixtures, and candlelight this venue really allows me to create a deeply rich, warm, and moody feel.

As always my favorite images on a wedding day are candid, and I really get excited when I get that perfect laughing photo during the toasts or a meaningful expression during the ceremony, but also with purposeful lighting creating dimension that emphasizes those moments. It’s not easy, but I love a challenge and shooting with this intention.  When people ask me what my style is, the best way for me to describe it is, I try to be a storyteller. To me, this means capturing moments and all the details as well as creating styled portraits in a more editorial way.  Alex and Eric did not do a first look at their wedding, but instead exchanged vows on either side of the barn door prior to their ceremony.  Using a couple of lights my goal was to create the emphasis on them at this moment and I love how it came together. Throughout the day I am always thinking three steps ahead of the events to unfold so if I have a dumb look on my face I’m probably just thinking about what’s happening next. 🙂
